Why Physicians Are Fed Up With Congress

(And Why It Matters)

Physicians across the country are increasingly frustrated with Congress—and for good reason. Medicare reimbursement rates continue to decline while practice costs soar. In 2025, doctors are facing a 2.83% pay cut, marking the fifth consecutive year of reductions. Despite urgent calls from major physician organizations like the AMA and AAFP, lawmakers have yet to implement a long-term solution. The result? A growing exodus from independent practice and mounting concern about patient access.

MedPAC has proposed a fix: tie future Medicare increases to the Medicare Economic Index. Whether Congress will act remains to be seen.

World Tuberculosis Day is March 24

Highlighting the New California TB Screening Law, AB2132

Today is World Tuberculosis Day, commemorating the day Robert Koch announced the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis as the cause of tuberculosis (TB).

TB is a deadly disease and today, in Los Angeles County (LAC), one out of seven patients with TB disease dies before completing treatment.

Over 75% of TB cases in Los Angeles County can be prevented by treating residents who have TB infection. To improve opportunities for prevention, a new California TB screening law AB2132 went into effect January 1, 2025. The law requires that adult patients receiving primary care services are offered a TB test if risk factors are identified, with follow up care for positive tests.

Newer three- to four-month preventive treatment regimens are safe, well-tolerated, and effective.* Providers seeking guidance may access the TB Infection Provider Guidance Toolkit or join the Southern California Community of Practice to End TB by emailing Melissa Zhang at MZhang@ph.lacounty.gov.
